Caitlin Lowe
Caitlin Lowe is women's Softball version of Ty Cobb , the former All
American centerfielder for the Arizona Wildcats. Caitlin Lowe is blonde,
beautiful and can play with anyone in the nation.

I was surfing the channels this weekend and came across some real
entertainment. The Women's College World Series was on ESPN and I stopped
to take a look. I could tell you it was to admire young athletes in their
prime. But truthfully it was because most of them are fit beyond belief and
wearing tight white pants. These young women make women's tennis look like
ladies golf from the seventies. It happened, when I found them, Arizona was
playing. This is a team of mostly blonde, tan women who look great in softball
uniforms. I am telling you, you would not turn from this game to see women's
tennis. Kournikova or
Sharapova have nothing on these women.
But their looks are not the only entertainment I saw. |
| These blonde babes can play the game. After watching them closely, very
closely, I realized they are the most fundamentally sound players I have
ever seen. They hit for average when needed. They protect the plate with
two strikes. They always catch the ball with two hands. They are ball players.
One player in particular caught my attention. It was the centerfielder
for the Arizona Wildcats. Her name is Caitlin Lowe. She looks like
a Barbie doll and plays like Ty Cobb. She has long blonde hair, green eyes
and a great smile. Her looks gets your attention but her .510 batting average
this year gets your respect. She is a First Team All American. This five
foot five co-ed roams centerfield like Andruw Jones. |

| She had a play during the game Sunday that will go down in
the book without her name but I will never forget. It was a home run hit
by the opposing team. Just as the ball was going over the fence Lowe
comes into the picture in a full dive, trying to catch the softball.
It hit off her glove as she belly flopped onto the fence and tumbled over
it. |

My first thought was this will separate the girls from the
men. We will not see Barbie again in this series. I was right it did separate
the men from the girls but I was wrong we did see her again. Immediately.
She didn't lay there like a man would, she hopped up and then jumped over
the fence and took her place in centerfield. Somewhere Ty Cobb was smiling.
I know I was. Not because she is a vision in softball pants but because she
is a ball player.
Those are a lot harder to find then Barbie dolls and a lot more fun to watch.

I agree with the author 1000%. I started watching Caitlin as a freshman
(for the looks at first, but then mostly because we have the same last name)
and I have followed her since. Right up through II World Cup. She is amazing
at every aspect of the game. The best move Coach Candrea made during the
World Cup was moving Caitlin back to her comfortable spot as the lead-off
hitter. I played many different sports all the way through college to adult
leagues and she is the most fundamentally sound player I have ever seen
(including boys and men). Plus, she can, as Keith Jackson of ABC would say,
"... flat out fly". Coach Candrea said that Laura Berg is the best centerfielder
in the world, but I think he knows that title will go to Caitlin as soon
as Laura retires! The author's statement that "she looks like a Barbie doll
and plays like Ty Cobb is 100% accurate.

This guy is obviously brilliant. Not only does he recognize a ball player
when he sees one. He knows that I am 100 % accurate. A very smart man.
