Idiot Shoppers

Who wants to shop on Thanksgiving?

Apparently the old adage “Never underestimate the stupidity of the American consumer” still rings true. Who in their right mind would leave the comfort of their home, while enjoying Thanksgiving with family and friends, to brave the November cold to save a few bucks on presents given in celebration of Jesus Christ It makes no sense but Walmart, Kmart, Target and the rest are betting people will do it in the millions.

And what’s worse, is they are probably right. What’s scary, these are the same people who vote in elections.  Morons who think so little of their family to believe they would rather get an expensive present than to spend Thanksgiving with them. And if that’s true why would someone wait in lines, fight other shoppers and drive from store to store, to buy a present for someone who doesn’t want to spend Thanksgiving together.

But that’s not the worst of it. No one, least of all me, feels sorry for the people who think trampling other shoppers is the way to honor Christ’s birth. The people I feel for are the employees who have to deal with these brainless boobs.

Take Walmart for example. They are opening at 6 PM on Thanksgiving. Sure, you are thinking, that’s not so bad. The employees can eat at 4 and get to work in time to open at 6. That, of course, would be assuming magic fairies will prep the store for the hoards they are expecting.

Remember to open a store for what they are expecting to be the busiest 24 hours of the year takes time. So employees will have to report at 2 maybe even noon to get ready. Boy will that be a nice relaxing holiday for mothers who get up before light to make sure their family has a nice day while counting the minutes before they get to put up with rude, angry people seeking deals on things nobody really needs.

As President of the United States, George Washington proclaimed the first nation-wide thanksgiving celebration in America marking November 26, 1789, “as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God”

Apparently President Washington forgot to mention part of observing Thanksgiving was to shop till you drop.

But what the hell did Washington know except love of family, friends and country.
