1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion 4 -15 oz cans of crushed tomatoes 2 cups chicken broth 1 8-ounce jar medium-hot salsa 1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 4 corn tortillas, cut in thin strips |
Sautee onions over medium heat with a little cooking oil. Onions will be done when they are translucent(see through)
Add ground beef to onions cook till brown, stirring often. Add remaining ingredients except tortilla strips. Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
Stir tortilla strips into soup and simmer for 5-10 minutes , until tortilla strips are softened. Serve hot in cups with shredded cheddar sprinkled generously across top.
